Volleyball Starts 1-1 on Day One of Knights Invitational

(vs. Richard Stockton) / (vs. Scranton)

Widener (9-4) went 1-1 on the first day of the Knights Invitational, falling 3-0 to Richard Stockton (21-25, 15-25, 19-25) before coming back to beat Scranton 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-12, 28-26) in Aston, PA.

Vs. Richard Stockton, junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) led the way with seven kills and added eight digs. Freshman Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) finished with six kills and seven digs to her credit. Schnalzer and Ruditys are both averaging over 2.6 kills/set.

Junior Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) produced five kills of her own and fellow junior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) led the Pride (8-4) with nine digs.

Freshman Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) continued her setting prowess with 18 assists. Barbieri averages 7.6 assists/set and leads the team with 16 service aces.

In the match against Scranton, it was again Schnalzer who led with 15 kills. Senior Victoria Vizzard (Havertown, PA) added eight kills with only three errors.

Barbieri made 37 assists and a team-leading six blocks. Miller led with 23 digs and sophomore Ashley Ferrill (Reading, PA) came off the bench to add 14 for the Pride (8-4).

The Scranton match was the 900th in the program's history and the team is 446-454.

Widener is back in action Saturday at the Neumann Invitational against Rutgers-Camden at 11:00 am and Marymount (VA) at 3:00 pm.
