Volleyball Wins Twice at Haverford Invitational

(vs. Neumann) / (vs. Catholic)

Junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) went on a tear with a double-double in both matches, leading Widener to victories of 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) vs. Neumann and 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18) against Catholic at the Haverford Invitational.

Schnalzer had 11 kills for a .257 hitting percentage to go with 14 digs vs. Neumann. Freshman Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) dished 21 assists, junior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) had 16 digs and freshman Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) totaled six kills.

The Pride (2-2) in the opening set cruised with 12 kills and a stellar .235 hitting percentage. They rallied in the third set from down 23-22 to win four of the next five points and claim the match.

Vs. Catholic, Schnalzer had 17 kills to fall one short of her career best and added 15 digs for her 11th career double-double. Ruditys had 15 kills and 13 digs, Barbieri amassed 39 assists with 12 digs and Miller posted a career-best 38 digs.

Widener rolled in the fourth set with 17 kills and just four errors for a .351 percentage. Schnalzer, Ruditys and sophomore Gina D'Allura (Broomall, PA) all had four kills in the set.

Schnalzer was picked to the all-tournament team after ending with 41 kills, 38 digs and a .212 hitting percentage.

"Kaitlin has embraced her leadership role both on and off the court," Widener coach Donovan Anglin said. "Not only is she one of our captains, but she is also our go-to player, one our younger players can look up to. She works hard in school and every practice, which translates to both academic and athletic success. Kaitlin is the consumate student-athlete and her hardwork is paying off."

Widener on Wednesday opens Commonwealth Conference play at Stevenson, starting at 7:00 pm.
