Volleyball Falls Twice On The First Day of The Haverford Invitational

(vs. Eastern) / (vs. Susquehanna)

Widener suffered a pair of losses against No. 16 Eastern, 3-0 (16-25, 10-25, 8-25), and Susquehanna, 3-1 (13-25, 21-25, 25-21, 28-26), on day one of the Haverford Invitational.

Widener (0-2) was able to come away with a victory in the third set of the Susquehanna match. Then only one point away from taking the match into a fifth set Susquehanna hitter Jessica Holm was able to save the set for the Crusaders.

Against Eastern, senior Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) closed with three kills, junior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) notched 11 digs and freshman Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) totaled six assists.

Vs. Susquehanna, junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) and freshman Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) posted 12 kills apiece, Vizzard had seven, Barbieri amassed 33 assists and Miller got 26 digs.

Within the two matches, Schnalzer and freshman Ruditys led the team with 13 kills each. Ruditys also recorded 15 digs in her first two NCAA matches and Barbieri recorded 39 sets along with four service aces.

Miller led the team with 37 digs and Vizzard managed three blocks. Vizzard also recorded 10 kills and gathered two digs in the two matches.

The Pride continue at the Haverford Invitational on Sunday against Neumann at noon and Catholic at 2:00 pm.
