(box score)

Senior Julia Flower (Burlington, CT) netted the equalizer in the second half as Widener posted a 1-1 tie at Cabrini in both teams' season opener in Radnor, PA.

The Cavaliers (0-0-1) opened the scoring in the 40th minute as Meghan Martin received a pass from Jessica Breuning and tallied for a 1-0 margin.

The Pride (0-0-1) then got even in the 66th minute. The visitors took advantage of a foul and Flower made the Cavaliers pay with an unassisted marker for her second career goal.

Cabrini owned both shots in the extra 20 minutes, including one from Gabby Mack that was stopped by senior Valarie Perretti (Clayton, NJ) in the 107th minute.

Flower ended with two shots and Perretti made two saves for the Pride.

"I'm very proud of the team for battling from a goal down," Widener coach Brian Sheehan said. "Val's save in the second overtime was incredible. We took a big step forward with our effort."

Marissa Jenkins came up with one save and Breuning amassed three shots for the Cavaliers.

It is the third time in the last six years Widener has opened its season with a tie and the first since a 0-0 contest at Franklin & Marshall on September 3, 2011.

Widener has three days of rest before its home opener Tuesday against Swarthmore, which begins at 7:00 pm as part of the "320 Challenge."
