Men's Basketball Posts 95-86 Victory Over Swarthmore

(box score)

Widener had six players score in double figures and used a run late in the contest to pull away en route to a 95-86 triumph over Swarthmore at Schwartz Center.

In a game both teams held a double-digit lead, it was Widener (7-3) that took control by scoring eight straight points to open an 81-72 cushion with 5:25 left.  Senior Rob McPherson (Bowie, MD) netted four points in that span, capping it on a jumper.

Even with all the scoring, it was the Pride's defense that played a huge part in the outcome.  The Garnet (4-6) were held without a point for almost nine minutes bridging both halves and shot only 41 percent (13-of-32) from the field in the second half.

Junior Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) was at it again for the Pride, closing with 14 points and 13 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.  He entered tonight fourth in the country in double-doubles and fourth in rebounds per contest, now standing at 13.4.

Junior Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) scored 17 points and was 10-for-10 from the line, senior Andrew Radomicki (Media, PA) netted 12 points, junior Mark Pryzbylkowski (New Egypt, NJ) scored 11 with sophomores Laron Byrd (Philadelphia, PA) and David Nicholson (Odenton, MD) adding 10 apiece for Widener, which shot 42 percent (25-of-59) from the floor and 71 percent (37-for-52) from the line.

Karl Barkley netted 21 points, Seth Liebert had 18, Jay Kober scored 16 and Chris Bourne added 11 for the Garnet, who shot 49 percent (27-of-55) from the field and 9-of-22 from 3-point range.

Widener returns to Commonwealth Conference play Saturday at Stevenson, beginning at 3:00 pm.
