Field Hockey to Host “Stick it to Cancer Night” on October 9

Widener's field hockey team will host "Stick it to Cancer Night" during its home game Wednesday, October 9 against Arcadia at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Game time is 7:00 pm and donations will be accepted for the Susan Reiley Memorial Fund. The Pride will be wearing pink breast cancer shirts during the contest and fans are asked to wear pink to the game.

While all are invited, the team particularly invites the staff from the Nursing Department as a celebration of their accomplishments. The Pride have five seniors who are Nursing majors and this includes Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA), Hannah Robinson (Clarksville, MD), Hannah Dinsmore (Wayne, PA), Brittany Gunderson (Turnersville, NJ) and Katie Ferguson (Glen Mills, PA).

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for all women and the leading overall cause of cancer death in women between ages 20 and 59. In the United States, breast cancer is expected to be diagnosed every three minutes and a woman will die from breast cancer every 13 minutes.
