Volleyball Witnesses Defeat in Straight Sets to Rowan

Widener played hard to the final point but lost in straight sets to non-conference opponent Rowan at the Schwartz Center on Friday (25-23, 26-24, 25-16).

Widener (15-15) returned home after defeating Albright 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Pride held with Rowan (21-8) in the first set and led for most of the second set, but the Profs were able to finish their attempts in the end and come away with a straight set victory over the Pride.

Leading the Pride was junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) with nine kills and 15 digs. Fellow outside hitter, freshman Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) added eight digs and seven kills to bring her season total to 285 kills.

Coming off the right side junior Jessica Dembeck (Philadelphia, PA) finished with six kills and only committed a single hitting error.

Middle hitters, senior Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) and junior Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) played dominant on the net as both finished with three kills and a solo block in the contest. Horan finished with a team-leading two assisted blocks.

Also contributing defensively was junior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) with a team-leading 16 digs and freshman Lauren Elliott (Aston, PA) with seven.

Freshman setter Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) added five digs and finished with 25 assists to bring her season total to 825.

Widener returns to the Schwartz Center on Wednesday to finish the 2013 season in a Commonwealth Conference game against Alvernia at 7:00 pm.
