Volleyball Notches Thrilling 3-2 Victory at Albright

Widener took a two sets to none lead and then saw its Commonwealth Conference match with Albright go the distance in a 3-2 win (25-22, 25-11, 23-25, 22-25, 17-15) in Reading, PA.


The Pride appeared to have things in hand after the second set, one in which they owned a .346 hitting percentage compared to .115 for the Lady Lions. Widener in the fifth set had eight kills and a .412 percentage, overcoming that Albright had 12 kills and a .417 percentage in the set.

Senior Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) and junior Jessica Dembeck (Philadelphia, PA) had 11 kills apiece with junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) adding 10 for the Pride (15-14, 3-5 CC), who ended with a 51-41 kills edge.

Vizzard also had three blocks and becomes the ninth player in school history to reach 200 career as she sits at 202.

Junior Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) had nine kills, Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) notched 40 assists, fellow freshman Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) recorded 20 digs and junior Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) added 18 for Widener. Miller became the 10th player in school history to reach 1,000 digs as she stands at 1,009.

Krysten Stanford posted 11 kills, Maddy Greth notched 10 and 20 digs, Morgan Heath totaled 35 assists and 11 digs, Caitlin Klotzbach had 31 digs and Christa Mantz added 23 for the Lady Lions (10-14, 2-6).

Widener is home Friday against Rowan, starting at 7:00 pm.
