Volleyball Closes the Door on Hood in Straight Sets

Widener made 33 kills for a .273 hitting percentage in its straight set defeat of Commonwealth Conference opponent Hood (25-12, 25-18, 25-11) at Schwartz Center.

Widener (11-9, 2-3 CC) returned home after defeating Franklin & Marshall in straight sets last Thursday. The result was no different on Wednesday for the Pride as they dominated both offensively and defensively against the Blazers.

The Pride capitalized over 77 attemps and only recorded 12 errors. Defensively, Widener kept the Blazers to a .009 percentage and registered nine blocks.

Freshman hitter Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) led the Pride with nine kills on 21 attempts and managed 10 digs on the night. Sophomore Gina D'Allura (Broomall, PA) and senior Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) each contributed six kills.

Vizzard also led the team with two solo and four assisted blocks. Junior right side Jessica Dembeck (Philadelphia, PA) recorded four assisted blocks and offensively added five kills with one assist.

With five kills and no errors stood junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA), who also contributed two blocks.

Coming off the bench senior Stephanie Schutt (Tucson, AZ) led the Pride with 11 digs and fellow senior Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) made a season-high 18 assists.

Widener next travels to Wilkes-Barre, PA on Saturday to play Micericordia at 2:00 pm, followed by Wilkes at 4:00 pm in the Middle Atlantic Conference Crossover.
