(box score)

Widener succumbed to a run from Messiah late in the second set and was dealt a 3-0 Commonwealth Conference loss (23-25, 22-25, 20-25) at Schwartz Center.

Widener (14-12, 2-5 CC) played seemingly flawless early in the second set to forge a 17-10 lead en route to 13 kills and just one error for a .500 hitting percentage in the frame. But Messiah (15-9, 5-2) ended the stanza on a 15-5 run and continued the burst in the third by tallying the first six points.

Jane Underman had five kills in the second set, finishing the match with 11 and a .280 percentage. Kristen Douglas amassed four kills in the frame and also ended with 11 to go with 10 digs for the Falcons.

Jessica Geib had 35 assists and 11 digs with Allison Hill adding 12 digs for Messiah.

Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) had nine kills and 17 digs, fellow freshman Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) amassed 33 assists, Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) totaled 13 digs and fellow junior Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) had four blocks for the Pride.

Widener ended with a strong .303 hitting percentage, but was on the wrong end of a 45-37 kills edge and gave up six aces.

Widener on Saturday hosts a tri-match on Homecoming Weekend and Breast Cancer Awareness Day, with donations benefitting the Side-Out Foundation. The Pride face Neumann at 10:00 am and Swarthmore at 2:00 pm.
