Volleyball Splits a Pair at DeSales Tri-Match

Widener's trip up north to Center Valley, PA for a tri-match resulted in a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-19, 25-20) over Penn State Berks before a 3-0 setback (23-25, 20-25, 23-25) to host DeSales.

Against Penn State Berks, Widener (14-11) had no problems in posting a 48-32 advantage in kills and getting a .268 hitting percentage.

Freshman Sabrina Barbieri (Glen Mills, PA) had 42 assists and 10 digs with senior Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) pounding 15 kills with no errors for a .682 hitting percentage. Freshman Brooke Ruditys (Upper Chichester, PA) amassed 10 and 13 digs, Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) totaled 28 digs and fellow junior Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) had 12 and seven kills.

Sophia Zhang had 10 kills and Morgan Buterbaugh totaled 22 digs for PSU Berks (10-9).

The DeSales match was close throughout, but Widener could not overcome a 50-39 kills disadvantage along with a .156 hitting percentage.

Ruditys closed with 10 kills and 12 digs, junior Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) had nine kills and five blocks with Schnalzer totaling nine kills and 11 digs. Barbieri totaled 33 assists and Miller had 20 digs.

Lauren Hess was a force with 22 kills and Justine McNulty had 41 assists for the Bulldogs (14-10).

Widener is home Wednesday for a big Commonwealth Conference match against Messiah, starting at 7:00 pm.
