(box score)

Sophomore Dillon Fields (Medford, NJ) scored 21 points, but it was not enough for Widener in a 72-61 Commonwealth Conference loss at Messiah in Grantham, PA.

Fields canned a 3-pointer in the opening minute of the second half to pull Widener to a 34-31 deficit.  But Messiah scored six straight points, including four from Brad Bolen, to open a 40-31 cushion with 17:54 left.

The Pride hung around as they closed to 40-34 with 17:28 to go on a three-point play from junior Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA).  But the Falcons took control with an 11-4 burst in just under four minutes for a 51-38 lead with 12:47 left, thanks to five points from Bolen and four from Zac Hoy.

Fields came up just two points shy of his career best from December 8 against Stevenson.  On this night, he shot 9-of-14 from the floor and drilled a pair of 3-pointers.

Freshman David Nicholson (Odenton, MD) scored 11 points off the bench for Widener (4-12, 3-6 CC), which shot 47 percent (23-of-49) from the floor.

Bolen ended with 29 points and six 3-pointers, Hoy scored 19 points to go with hitting 11-for-13 from the line and Taylor Groff added 10 points for the Falcons (9-6, 5-4), who hit seven 3-pointers and were 21-for-26 from the stripe.
