Women's Basketball Wins, 67-56, at Hood

Junior Joanna Persiano (Absecon, NJ) scored a season-high 18 points off the bench and senior Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) keyed a crucial first-half run for Widener in a 67-56 Commonwealth Conference victory at Hood in Frederick, MD.
 
Carney scored six points during a half-ending 13-3 run in just under six minutes, helping Widener turn a one-point lead into a 37-26 margin.  She netted the last four points in the run, including a three-point play, and Persiano nailed a 3-pointer.
 
Senior Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) scored nine points in the half and Carney added eight for the Pride, who shot 34 percent (12-of-35) from the field and forced 16 turnovers.
 
Persiano shot 4-of-9 from the field for the contest, all from 3-point range, and was 6-for-6 from the line.  Carney scored 13 points and Dellinger netted 12 for the Pride (12-3, 7-1 CC), who shot 34 percent (21-of-61) from the field.
 
Rachel Wiley scored 16 points and Rachel Kessler added nine for the Blazers (4-10, 2-5), who were 0-of-12 from 3-point range and committed 30 turnovers.
 
Things get much tougher on Wednesday for Widener, which visits seventh-ranked and first-place Messiah at 6:00 pm in Mechanicsburg, PA.
