Volleyball Splits On Second Day Of Bomber Invitational

(vs. Union) / (vs. RU-Newark)

Widener closed fifth at the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, NY today after taking Rutgers-Newark in three sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-14), despite losing 3-1 to Union (19-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-27) in the first match.
 
Against Union in the first match today, setter Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) tallied 34 assists and 13 digs. Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) notched 12 kills in 26 attempts with just two errors and also had nine digs with Shauna Phillips (Dallas, PA) adding nine kills of her own. Freshman Cassidy Kerezsi (Upper Chichester, PA) had five kills with one error in 11 attempts.  Senior libero Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) totaled 27 digs.
 
Against Rutgers-Newark in Widener's final match of the tournament, Spence had 20 digs and Greenberg amassed 31 assists. Vizzard had eight kills to go with nine digs.  Jessica Dembeck (Philadelphia, PA) notched eight kills in 17 attempts and fellow sophomore Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) added five kills in 12 attempts.  Sophomore Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) had seven kills in 20 attempts with no hitting errors.

Greenberg was named to the all-tournament team.
 
The Pride will travel to Glenside, PA on Tuesday to face Arcadia for its second Commonwealth Conference match, beginning at 7:00 pm.
