Field Hockey Handed Heartbreaking 2-1 Overtime Loss at Stevenson

Widener had its chances in overtime, but was dealt a 2-1 loss by Stevenson in both teams Commonwealth Conference opener in Owings Mills, MD.

 
Stevenson took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute as Caitlin Dempsey scored her first goal of the year.  Widener leveled the match six minutes later when senior Emily Norcross (Erial, NJ) netted her second of the season off an assist from junior Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA).
 
The Pride had six penalty corners in overtime and got off three good shots, but were unable to put away any of them.
 
The Mustangs came through in overtime.  Amy Tamarana made a great spin move near the end line and got the ball to Brooke Few, who worked it over to Dempsey for the game-winner 8:24 into the extra session.
 
Freshman Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA) took four shots and sophomore Jessica Sochocky (Hammonton, NJ) made four saves for the Pride (1-6, 0-1 CC).
 
Katie Cavanaugh made seven saves for the Mustangs (4-4, 1-0).
 
Widener on Tuesday hosts Muhlenberg at 7:00 pm.
