Field Hockey Falls, 7-3, at Cabrini

Widener hung tough with Cabrini most of the way before being dealt a 7-3 loss in Radnor, PA.

The Cavaliers took the lead for good with 15:26 left when Lindsey Atzert scored for a 4-3 lead. Atzert was not done as she found the back of the cage 34 seconds later for a 5-3 cushion, marking the first time all game either team led by more than one goal.

Atzert completed her natural hat trick with her fourth goal of the game at the 8:25 mark for a 6-3 Cabrini lead. Kate Solewin closed the scoring with 3:58 to play.

Junior Brittany Gunderson (Turnersville, NJ) had a goal and an assist with freshman Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA) and junior Devon Biglin (Ocean City, NJ) also scoring for the Pride (1-5). Junior Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA) added an assist.

Taylor McGarvey dished two assists and Genevieve Paulin made one save for Cabrini (3-4).

Widener on Saturday visits Stevenson in its Commonwealth Conference opener, beginning at 7:30 pm in Owings Mills, MD.
