Men’s Soccer Battles But Ends In 1-1 Tie With Rosemont

(boxscore)
Widener more than doubled Rosemont in shots taken, but was unable to find the back of the net to secure a victory in tonight's 1-1 draw at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Rosemont (0-4-1) was first on the scoreboard when Patrick McElroy took a shot 27 minutes into the game to get past Widener goalkeeper Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia). In the first half, the Pride (1-5-1) took seven shots to the Ravens' two.

Despite being down, Widener came back in the second half to put up seven more shots to Rosemont's four. Senior DJ DiPaola (Havertown, PA) put the Pride on the board to even the score at 57:57 for his third goal of the season.

The game was sent into double overtime after a quiet first overtime period. Widener took two shots and Rosemont took one, but neither team could find the net. Troy Czapor (Richboro, PA) was the nearest goal scorer in the second overtime, just barely missing the goal with 50 seconds remaining.

Czapor and Matt Parrotta (Torrington, CT) took three shots apiece with DiPaola and Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) each taking two. Widener took 16 shots and had nine corner kicks with Rosemont getting seven and two.

The Pride next travels to play Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday for a noon match.
