Field Hockey Handed 3-2 Loss at Wilkes

(box score)

Despite rallying from a two-goal deficit to tie, Widener was dealt a tough 3-2 loss at Wilkes in Edwardsville, PA.

Down 2-0 at halftime, Widener (1-4) came out firing in the second half thanks to freshman standout Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA).  She scored twice in the first 7:02 of the period, both off penalty corners and both off passes from the top of the circle courtesy of senior Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ).

But the Lady Colonels (3-2) broke the Pride's heart in the 47th minute to regain the lead, 3-2.  Kerryn Redcay took Kaitlyn Bevans' shot that went off the goalkeeper's pads and found the back of the cage.

Garvey closed with three shots and sophomore Jessica Sochocky (Hammonton, NJ) made six saves for the Pride.

Aliya Frankel ended with four shots and Alexis Reed amassed eight saves for the Lady Colonels.

Wilkes opened the scoring in the third minute when Ashley Ream found the back of the cage.  The lead grew to 2-0 in the 21st minute when Frankel had her shot deflected home by Lauren Pawling.

Widener continues its four-game road trip next Thursday at Cabrini, beginning at 6:30 pm.
