Men's Soccer Falls, 2-1, to Swarthmore

(box score)

Widener gave regionally ranked Swarthmore a battle, but was handed a 2-1 loss at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Swarthmore got consecutive corner kicks in the 33rd minute and converted the second.  Jack Momeyer lofted one that was flicked by Michael Superdock and deflected home by Cameron French for a 1-0 match.

The Garnet doubled the lead in the 55th minute when Michael Stewart converted a penalty kick.

Widener was not done as a take down in the box by Swarthmore goalkeeper Jake Tracy led to a penalty kick.  Freshman Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, NJ) gladly obliged in the 78th minute by putting a penalty kick inside the left post for his second goal of the year and a 2-1 deficit.

The Pride looked to square the match in the final minute.  Joe Brydges (Philadelphia, PA) booted a great corner kick, but fellow senior Kevin Martin (Havertown, PA) just headed it over the bar.

Senior DJ DiPaola (Havertown, PA) had three shots and junior Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) played great in goal with seven saves for the Pride (1-4).

Momeyer closed with five shots and Tracy only made one save for the Garnet (4-0), who entered fifth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings.

Widener is home Saturday against Neumann as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The women face Wilkes at 1:00 pm and the men's contest is at 4:00 pm.
