Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 22 Montclair State

Widener took second place at the MSU Holiday Tournament after being handed a 77-34 loss by 22nd-ranked Montclair State in Montclair, NJ.


The Red Hawks raced to a 46-16 halftime lead by shooting a blistering 54 percent (20-of-37) from the floor, with only one attempt coming from three-point range.  Melissa Tobie had 13 points, seven rebounds and six steals in the half with Shalette Brown adding 11 points.

Jennifer Egee (Ridley Park, PA) had 12 points and seven rebounds overall with fellow junior Joanna Persiano (Absecon, NJ) adding eight points for the Pride (9-3), who were held to only 19 percent shooting (12-of-63) from the field.

Senior Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) was named to the all-tournament team after ending the weekend with 21 points and 15 rebounds over two contests.

Tobie closed today with 17 points, nine rebounds and six steals, Brown scored 12 points and Jen Kuczynski netted 11 for Montclair State (13-0), who shot 47 percent (28-of-60) overall.

Widener is home Saturday against Lycoming at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest between the same schools at 3:00 pm.
