Men's Basketball Gets First Victory With 80-70 Triumph Over Elizabethtown

Widener erased a 13-point deficit in the first half and got its first victory of the season with an 80-70 Commonwealth Conference triumph over Elizabethtown at Schwartz Center.
 
Senior Rob McPherson (Bowie, MD) had 15 points and nine rebounds, junior Rodney Brown (Lake Valley, NJ) scored a career-high 14 points, sophomore Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) posted 13 and 11 rebounds with junior Bob Makor (Philadelphia, PA) adding 11 points for the Pride (1-3, 1-0 CC).  Widener shot 57 percent (13-of-23) from the field in the second half and outscored Elizabethtown 42-25 in that span.
 
Joe Schwalm poured in 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting with five 3-pointers and Lee Eckert added nine points and eight rebounds for the Blue Jays (1-4, 0-2), who were held to 35 percent shooting (9-of-26) after the intermission.
 
Widener on Saturday plays at Lebanon Valley, starting at 3:00 pm.
