Volleyball Upends DeSales Before Loss to No. 19 Eastern

Widener got great play in the fifth set for a 3-2 victory (26-24, 25-15, 18-25, 22-25, 15-6) over DeSales before a 3-0 setback (13-25, 12-25, 12-25) to 19th-ranked Eastern at the Middle Atlantic Conference Crossover in Mechanicsburg, PA.

 
The Pride (12-12) in the fifth set vs. DeSales amassed eight kills and no errors over 20 attacks.  DeSales was held to four kills and committed four errors.
 
Senior Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) continued her strong play with 21 kills, falling one shy of her career best from September 30, 2011 against DeSales, to go with 17 digs.  It is her 11th match this season and third straight with double figures in kills and her sixth double-double this year.
 
Sophomore Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) had 15 kills and 17 digs, junior Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) notched 53 assists and 17 digs with senior Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) posting 44 digs.  Junior Stephanie Schutt (Tucson, AZ) amassed 17 digs and sophomore Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) had 15.
 
Julie Blessing and Paige Horrigan had 13 kills apiece for the Bulldogs (10-14).
 
Against Eastern, Greenberg notched 15 assists and Spence totaled 10 digs.
 
Erin Hillman recorded 15 kills, Katrina Pisch had 11 and Kelly Groff posted 14 digs for the Eagles (18-4).
 
Widener on Tuesday hosts Lycoming for a Commonwealth Conference match, starting at 7:00 pm.
