Field Hockey Handed 8-2 Loss By Lebanon Valley

(boxscore)
Widener put up five shots in each half, but that was not enough to secure a win as it was dealt an 8-2 loss from Lebanon Valley in tonight's Commonwealth Conference game at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Lebanon Valley's Cate Cusack scored her first of four goals tonight 14 minutes into the game. Just a few minutes later, Widener (2-8, 0-2 CC) had its first scoring opportunity when Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA) crossed the ball in front of the net, but nobody was there to help it into the goal. Cusack was able to get another goal right before the Pride scored its first at the 22-minute mark when Devon Biglin (Ocean City, NJ) fed Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) for her first goal of the season.

Coming out of a time out, freshman Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA) hit her 10th goal of the season when she popped the ball past her defender then caught up with it to drill it past Valley keeper Chloe Baro, who made five saves tonight. Going into halftime, Widener was down by one. In the second half, Lebanon Valley (6-5, 2-1 CC) took nine shots and scored five goals.

For the Pride, Nardone took four shots and made one defensive save. Garvey put up three shots, Balonis took two and Mackenzie Lindquist (Ocean City, NJ) took one. Jessica Sochocky (Hammonton, NJ) played 56 minutes in goal and made five saves. Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) finished the last 14 minutes in goal and made one save.

Widener's Homecoming game is Saturday against Alvernia in its next Commonwealth Conference match, beginning at noon.
