Volleyball Falls, 3-1, at Messiah

Widener fought hard to force a fourth set and nearly stormed its way to a fifth, but was handed a tough 3-1 Commonwealth Conference loss (12-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-27) at Messiah in Mechanicsburg, PA.

 
After only getting six kills in each of the first two sets, Widener roared back with 14 in the third set and only two errors.  Messiah recorded 12 in the set, but could not overcome five errors.
 
The Pride then created a 25-25 tie in the fourth set, but lost the next two points and the match.  The visitors had nine errors in the set.
 
Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) had 10 kills, fellow senior Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) notched 29 digs, sophomore Kaitlin Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) had 13 and junior Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) closed with 28 assists and 15 digs for the Pride.
 
Jessica Geib posted 33 assists and 18 digs, Allison Hill had 24 digs with Lauren Rees and Lindsay King getting nine kills apiece for the Falcons (19-7, 6-1 CC).
 
Widener (13-14, 4-3) sits by itself in fourth place in the league.  The squad is home Saturday for a tri-match vs. Neumann at 10:00 am and Penn State Altoona at 2:00 pm.
