Ferguson Hits Overtime Goal in Field Hockey's 3-2 Victory Over Albright

(boxscore)
Junior Katie Ferguson (Glen Mills, PA) scored 11:54 into overtime to secure Widener's 3-2 Commonwealth Conference win over Albright in Reading, PA.

Widener scored the first goal in the ninth minute when senior Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) put one past keeper Marguerite DeLucas.  Five minutes later, Courtney White met Kaitlyn Pietrusewicz to give Albright a goal and even the score 1-1.

Pietrusewicz came out of the halftime and scored again for the Lady Lions (8-7, 1-5 CC) five minutes into the second half, with the assist going to Mackenzie Faight. Not ready to let up, Widener (5-9, 3-3) saw the score tied again when Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA) hit her fourth goal of the season, which sent the game into overtime.

In the 82nd minute, Ferguson took a rebound off Nardone's initial shot and put it past DeLucas for her first goal of the season to win it.

Ferguson, Brittany Creighton (Pitman, NJ) and Meghan Garvey (Landenberg, PA) each put up three shots with Nardone taking four.  Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) played the whole game between the posts, making six saves.

DeLucas made eight saves for Albright.

Widener will travel on Saturday to take on No. 18 Elizabethtown in another conference face-off, beginning at 1:00 pm.
