Men's Soccer Leaves Alvernia With 2-1 Road Win

(box score)

Sophomore Troy Czapor
(Richboro, PA) scored twice and Widener held on for a 2-1 Commonwealth Conference victory at Alvernia in Reading, PA.

Widener (6-6-2, 3-1-1 CC) finally broke the ice in the 60th minute as Czapor scored his fourth goal off the season off a throw-in from freshman Eric Bihlear (Tabernacle, NJ).  The Pride kept the pressure on looking for more and it worked as they benefitted from an own goal in the 66th minute for a 2-0 margin.

The Crusaders (6-6-3, 1-4) got one back in the 79th minute when Kyle Martyn tallied off a feed from Ricky Bruno.  But they would get no closer as they did not record a shot on goal the remainder of the contest.

Derek Brubaker (Lancaster, PA) had five shots and fellow junior Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) made six saves for the Pride, who ended with a 16-13 shots edge and are 5-1-2 in their last eight matches.

Martyn closed with four shots for Alvernia.

Widener is home Wednesday vs. Albright, beginning at 7:00 pm.
