Women’s Basketball Defeats Alvernia, 78-68, In Conference Bout

Widener visited Alvernia for today's Commonwealth Conference faceoff, ending in a 78-68 victory in Reading, PA.
 
Alvernia got the jump by being the first of the two teams to score, but the Pride (12-7, 5-3 CC) quickly came back and held the lead the entire game. Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) led the pack with 19 total points, shooting 8-for-15 in field goals. Dellinger also had two assists, three steals, one blocked shot and four defensive rebounds. She was not alone, however, as fellow junior Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) followed close behind with 18 total points by shooting 8-for-11 in field goals. Carney led the team with nine assists and four steals.

Sophomore Jennifer Egee (Ridley Park, PA) scored 16 points with four 3-pointers and junior Francesca Lee (Hainesport, NJ) tallied 10 rebounds, including seven on offense.
 
Widener on Wednesday hosts a Commonwealth Conference men's and women's doubleheader against Elizabethtown. The women compete first at 6:00 pm with the men following at 8:00 pm.  The women also will take part in "Play 4Kay" as donations will be accepted for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund to help find a cure for cancer.
