Field Hockey Suffers 4-3 Overtime Loss To Elizabethtown In Conference Opener

Widener forced the game to go into overtime after being down two goals, but took a tough 4-3 Commonwealth Conference loss to Elizabethtown at Edith R. Dixon Field.
 
Despite falling behind 2-0 just 20 minutes into the first half, the Pride battled for a dramatic comeback to send the game into overtime. Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) gave the Pride (4-2, 0-1 CC) their first goal off of a penalty corner. In the second half, Emily Norcross (Erial, NJ), shot two unassisted goals past goalkeeper Lindy Hamp to keep Widener alive.
 
Widener played tough all the way through overtime until 13:45 into the period, when Caitlin Grimes got the game winning goal from an assist by Nadine Yunginger for Elizabethtown (4-3, 1-0 CC). 
 
Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE), made 11 saves and Nardone had two defensive saves for the Pride.
 
Widener hits the road on Tuesday September 27 to Muhlenburg at 7:30 p.m.
