Volleyball Takes Third Place at Knights Invitational

(vs. DeSales) / (vs. Pitt-Bradford)

Widener suffered a tough 3-2 loss (25-22, 30-28, 16-26, 21-25, 14-16) to DeSales before topping Pitt-Bradford 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-19) in the third-place match at the Knights Invitational.
 
Against DeSales, junior Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) broke the school's single-match record with 55 digs.  The previous mark of 50 was set by Maggie Caramanico on October 7, 2004 against Russell Sage.
 
Senior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) posted 40 assists and 24 digs with junior Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) getting 16 kills and 21 digs.  Senior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) pounded 14 kills and freshman Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) notched 11 digs.
 
Versus Pitt-Bradford, Spence again was on a roll with 20 digs for the Pride (8-5), who have won four of their last five matches.  Ballew recorded 28 assists to go with 12 digs, Merton amassed 14 kills and Miller added 12 digs.

Merton was named to the all-tournament team after ending the weekend with 44 kills, a .394 hitting percentage and 16 digs over four matches.
 
Widener on Tuesday hosts Messiah in Commonwealth Conference play, beginning at 7:00 pm.
