Volleyball Splits a Pair in Bracket Play at Bomber Invitational

(vs. Brockport) / (vs. Union)

Widener had a clean sweep over Brockport 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) before suffering a loss to Union 3-2 (25-18, 17-25, 18-25, 25-23, 14-16) at the Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, NY.
 
During its first match of bracket play against Brockport, Widener came out strong on both offense and defense. Senior Nicole Merton (Media, Pa), had 12 kills and no hitting errors. Setter Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, Pa) gave the Pride 22 assists and libero Meghan Spence (Havertown, Pa) had 23 digs.
 
Against Union, Merton came up big once against by slamming down 15 kills. Other big players for the offense include freshman Kaitlyn Schnalzer (Allentown, Pa) with nine kills, senior Alectra Edison (Lancaster, Ca) with eight and junior Angela DiMaria (Warrington, Pa) adding seven. Greenberg collected 51 assists and Spence helped start up the offense with 32 digs.
 
Spence was chosen for the all-tournament team.
 
Widener takes on Arcadia on September 14 for its next home game at 7:00 pm.
