Women’s Basketball Comes Out Victorious, 77-49, Against Albright

Widener held the lead through the entire 40 minutes and came out with a 77-49 triumph and its second straight Commonwealth Conference victory against Albright at Schwartz Center.
 
In the squad's second league contest, the women teamed up to outscore its opponents 38-17 in the first half and 39-32 in the second. Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) started the game off strong for the Pride (4-3, 2-0 CC) with 14 points in the first half to go with two steals and six rebounds. Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) added four steals of her own in the first half.
 
Hejnas closed with 19 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Dellinger was second with 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half, and five steals. Lil Carney (Narberth, PA) had five assists and added three to the team's 15 steals.

Joanna Persiano (Absecon, NJ) also had two steals of her own to go with 11 points, including going 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Freshmen Courtney Colella (Cinnaminson, NJ) and Kristina Reiter (Sewell, NJ) and lone senior Lindsay Pepino (Oceanside, NJ) each had six points . Colella also amassed seven rebounds in 14 minutes.
 
Albright's Jessica Venturelli and Tara Sabotchik both totaled 12 points for the Lions (2-5, 0-2 CC). Venturelli shot 4-for-4 from the line and Sabotchik went five-for-seven.
 
Widener travels to Eastern for its next game on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 pm.
