Men’s Basketball Triumphs Over Albright, 74-66

Widener notched its first Commonwealth Conference triumph as it won a 74-66 battle with Albright at Schwartz Center.
 
Widener got the scoring started right away in the first half with a layup by Perry Wright (Severn, MD) followed by a 3-pointer from Rob McPherson (Bowie, MD). Widener (5-2, 1-1 CC) outscored Albright 33-27 in the first half.
 
Through the entire back-and-forth game, Wright gathered 18 points and nine rebounds. Brian Smith (Baltimore, MD) matched Wright's 18 points by shooting 5-for-7 from 3-point range and 3-for-4 from the line. Smith also had two steals and two assists. McPherson and Jack Brennan (Stratford, NJ) each scored eight points.
 
For the Lions (3-2, 0-2), Cornell Mickens scored 20 points by shooting 7-of-10 from the floor with two 3-pointers.
 
Widener next travels to Glassboro, NJ to participate in the Heritage's Dairy Farm Classic against Berkeley College on Friday at 6:00 pm.
