Women’s Basketball Tops Bridgewater State, 86-69, for Fifth Straight Victory

Widener took care of business on both ends of the court in notching its fifth consecutive win, 86-69 over Bridgewater State at the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, FL.

The Pride shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the floor and buried five 3-pointers in the second half to outscore the Bears, 53-42.  Bridgewater State hit only 39 percent (14-of-36) in the half and was a mere 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Junior Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) had 17 points and five steals with sophomore and reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week Joanna Persiano (Absecon, NJ) scoring 16 points for Widener (7-3).  Junior Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) recorded 12 points and eight rebounds with sophomore Jennifer Egee (Ridley Park, PA) adding 10 points off the bench.

Widener ended with a 46-41 rebounding edge and posted an astonishing 20 steals.

Michaela Cosby scored 16 points with Shelly DePina, Megan Boutilette and Monica Bharoocha netting 12 points apiece for the Bears (5-4), who hit only 33 percent (23-of-69) from the field and just 3-of-16 from 3-point range.

Widener on Thursday battles Montclair State, beginning at noon.
