Field Hockey Suffers A 3-1 Loss Against Cabrini

(boxscore)
Widener got a quick start, but could not keep the momentum going and fell behind in a 3-1 loss to Cabrini at Edith R. Dixon Field.

Just nine minutes into the game, seniors Kate Fay (West Chester, PA) and Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) teamed up to score the first goal of the game. Fay fed the ball to Cormier, who then put it past goalkeeper Genevieve Paulin for her seventh season goal to bring the Pride (6-4) to a 1-0 lead. About two minutes after that, however, Cabrini's Lindsey Atzert tied up the game.

Despite all of the back and forth action, Widener could not get the ball into the net. Cabrini (6-4) scored twice more, once on a ball from Maura Gordon to Lauren Alessi and the second an unassisted goal from Erin McLaughlin.

The Pride has five defensive saves, three of which came from senior Lauren Gehringer (Boyertown, PA). Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) and Olivia Burgese (Collegeville, PA) added one each and Nardone also took five shots.

Widener's next game is at Gwynedd-Mercy on Thursday, beginning at 7:00 pm.
