Volleyball Shuts Out Lebanon Valley 3-0 To Clinch Number Two Seed

(boxscore)
Senior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) slammed 16 kills to help Widener take home a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-16, 25-23) over Lebanon Valley and clinch the number two seed in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, earning it a home game in the semifinals.

Widener (22-9, 6-1 CC) dominated with an explosive offense and a tight defense. Merton had 16 kills and no errors out of 23 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .696. Junior Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) added 11 of her own kills and 12 digs. Freshman Kaitlyn Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) remains a key component to the Pride's offense, as she had 10 kills.

The third set was a heart-stopper as the Dutchmen (20-7, 5-2) tied it at 22. Through a few big hits and a tip from setter Jamie Ballew (Media, PA), Widener brought the set to match point.  Merton slammed a ball that caused confusion on the court and Lebanon Valley let the ball drop to the floor for a Pride sweep.

Senior Jamie Hawk led the Dutchmen's offense with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .458. Freshman Setter Kacey Musselman had 30 assists.

Ballew amassed 43 assists in the three sets and junior libero Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) totaled 28 digs.

Widener next takes on Moravian at home on Friday, beginning at 7:00 pm.
