Volleyball Takes Two At Tri-Match

(vs. Neumann) / (vs. Rutgers-Camden)
Widener hosted its second tri-match of the year and beat both Neumann and Rutgers-Camden 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 respectively) at Schwartz Center.
 
The Pride (21-9) came out strong in their first match against Neumann. Senior Nicole Merton (Media, PA), junior Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) and freshman Kaitlyn Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) each tallied eight kills. DiMaria, along with Alectra Edison (Lancaster, CA) and Jamie Ballew (Media, PA), had three service aces apiece. In the second match against Rutgers-Camden, Merton amassed another eight kills, along with eight service aces. Sophomore Veronica Vizzard (Havertown, PA) had eight kills of her own.
 
Libero Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA/) totaled 31 digs between the two matches and Ballew collected 51 assists on the day.

The victories also make eighth-year coach Donovan Anglin the winningest coach in school history, improving his career mark to 153-107.  Bob Piotti held the previous mark, going 152-135 from 1987-96.

Widener also notched its ninth 20-win season in school history and tied the mark with its fourth straight 20-win campaign, matching the record set from 1988-91.
 
Widener next plays at home against Lebanon Valley on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 pm.  The winner clinches the number two seed for the Commonwealth Conference Tournament and a home game when the squads meet again in the semifinals on November 2.
