Volleyball Takes Control Over Penn State Berks With A 3-0 Shutout

Widener came out strong and did not give Penn State Berks any chance as it took a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-19, 25-8).
 
The beginning of the first set went back and forth until the Pride let loose and pulled away to take their first step towards a shutout win. Junior Shauna Phillips (Dallas, PA) and freshman Kaitlyn Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) each had three kills. The second and third sets were Widener's from the start. Gaining the lead early and holding onto throughout both of the sets, the Pride (19-9) dominated the Lions (18-6) with a number of kills and digs.
 
Senior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) slammed seven kills, and Alectra Edison (Lancaster, CA) and Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) each had six of their own. Edison also notched four blocks and Merton added three. Freshman Caitlin Horan (Morristown, NJ) came into the third set and went two-for-two with kills.
 
Setters Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) and Maggie Greenberg (Meadowbrook, PA) had 22 and nine assists, respectively. Junior libero Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) totaled 16 digs.
 
For Penn State, sophomore Amy Shelton tallied 15 kills and one block.
 
Widener hosts its second tri-match on Saturday.  It plays Neumann at 10:00 am and Rutgers-Camden at 2:00 pm.
