Jamie Ballew Breaks School Assists Record as Volleyball Splits Two More Matches in California

Senior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) became the school's all-time leader in assists for Widener, which notched a 3-2 victory (16-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13) over Redlands before a 3-0 loss (16-25, 8-25, 17-25) to No. 15 Cal Lutheran at the Posada Royale Fall Classic in Thousand Oaks, CA.
 
Ballew got the record by notching 40 assists to go with 23 digs versus Redlands.  Her total stands at 3,879 assists and she passes Liz Lund, who notched 3,855 from 2001-04.
 
Ballew is a three-time All-Commonwealth Conference pick, including a first-team selection in 2009, and was tabbed the 2008 conference Rookie of the Year.
 
Also against Redlands, senior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) had 17 kills and an impressive .326 hitting percentage and freshman Kaitlyn Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) notched 10 kills.  Junior Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) had 25 digs, sophomore Stephanie Schutt (Tucson, AZ) added 13 and freshman Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) had 12.
 
Versus Cal Lutheran, Ballew notched 15 assists and Spence had 15 digs for the Pride (17-9).
 
Widener hits the road Tuesday to visit Elizabethtown.  The Pride can clinch a fifth straight trip to the Commonwealth Conference Tournament with a victory.
