Volleyball Goes 1-for-2 to Open Play in California

(vs. Whittier) / (vs. CMS)

Widener ended the day with a 3-2 victory (25-19, 21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-11) over Whittier following a 3-2 loss (18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 15-9) to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Posada Royale Fall Classic in Thousand Oaks, CA.
 
Against Whittier, senior Nicole Merton (Media, PA), junior Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) and freshman Kaitlyn Schnalzer (Bethlehem, PA) each closed with 12 kills.  Senior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) notched 27 assists and 10 digs, junior Meghan Spence (Haverford, PA) had 38 digs, freshman Victoria Miller (West Chester, PA) amassed 16 and sophomore Stephanie Schutt (Tucson, AZ) contributed 13.
 
Versus CMS, Merton ended with 14 kills to go with a .250 hitting percentage and Schnalzer had 13 kills.  Ballew finished with 45 assists and 17 digs, Spence totaled 29 digs, DiMaria had 12, Miller posted 11 and Schutt added 10.
 
Widener (16-8) is in action Saturday against Redlands at 6:00 pm ET and host Cal Lutheran at 8:00 pm ET.
