Field Hockey Handed 5-1 Loss at Gwynedd-Mercy

Widener allowed two goals late in the first half and could not recover in a 5-1 loss at Gwynedd-Mercy in Gwynedd Valley, PA.

The Pride (6-5) got their lone goal in the 13th minute when junior Nicole Nardone (Garwood, NJ) scored for a 1-1 tie. Sarah Jackson opened the scoring for the Griffins (11-3) in the 10th minute.

But Maria Karidas scored for Gwynedd-Mercy in the 24th minute and Brooke Stretch tallied in the 28th minute for a 3-1 contest. Both also found the back of the cage in the second half for the final.

Senior Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) took five shots and freshman Maggie Karmeris (Wilmington, DE) made eight saves for the Pride.

Karidas had six shots and Kelly Kruk came up with nine saves for the Griffins.

Widener on Saturday hits the road to visit No. 9 Messiah, beginning at 1:00 pm in Grantham, PA.
