Volleyball Drops Two Matches at Battlefield Classic

Widener suffered a 3-1 loss (20-25, 17-25, 25-16, 21-25) to host Gettysburg before a 3-0 setback (20-25, 14-25, 21-25) to Salisbury at the Battlefield Classic.

Against Gettysburg, junior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) dished 31 assists to go with seven digs, sophomore Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) posted 15 digs and sophomore Jennifer Mastantoni (Horsham, PA) notched 13. Junior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) posted 11 kills with sophomore Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) and freshman Heather Long (Ephrata, PA) adding seven apiece.

Versus Salisbury, Ballew had 20 assists and seven digs with Spence adding 11 digs. Junior Alectra Edison (Lancaster, CA) pounded seven kills and Merton contributed six.

Widener on Tuesday visits Swarthmore for a 7:00 pm as part of the “320 Challenge.” The Pride last season notched a 12-7 victory in the season-long series that pits the schools in their 19 shared sports.
