Junior Brad Ziegler (Medford, NJ) scored in the second minute to give Widener a lead it would never relinquish in a 3-0 victory over Immaculata in the Garnet Alumni Classic in Swarthmore, PA.
Sophomore Joe Brydges (Philadelphia, PA) assisted Ziegler just 1:23 into the game to put Widener up 1-0. Junior Dan Lorenzet (Forest Hill, MD) scored in the final minute of the first half for a two-goal lead and freshman Derek Brubaker (Lancaster, PA) netted his first career goal in the 59th minute for a 3-0 Widener advantage.
Widener outshot Immaculata 21-7, including an 11-3 edge in the first half.
Freshman Jakub Valdner (Bratislava, Slovakia) recorded the win, making four saves for the Pride (2-0).
Joshua Garcia had 11 saves for the Mighty Macs (0-2).
Widener on Sunday heads back to Swarthmore, PA to face Gwynedd-Mercy in the Garnet Alumni Classic beginning at 1:00 pm.
