Volleyball Opens Season By Splitting Two Matches

(vs. Gallaudet) / (vs. Penn St. Mont Alto)

Widener began the 2010 campaign with a 3-1 loss (25-21, 20-25, 26-28, 25-27) to Gallaudet before rebounding for a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-12, 25-17) over Penn State Mont Alto at the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, PA.

Against Gallaudet, sophomore Angela DiMaria (Warrington, PA) finished with 10 kills and 23 digs, junior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) had seven kills and freshman Heather Long (Ephrata, PA) also had seven. Junior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) ended with 34 assists to go with 18 digs and junior Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) closed with 22 digs.

Versus Penn State Mont Alto, Ballew notched 18 assists with Long and junior Ellen Kaufmann (Philadelphia, PA) adding five kills apiece for the Pride (1-1).

Widener on Saturday plays Gettysburg at 10:00 am and Salisbury at noon.
