Widener made a late push for the tying goal, but was unable to overcome its two-goal first half deficit and dropped a 2-1 contest to Cabrini in Radnor, PA.
Cabrini opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Anthony Girolamo buried one from 20 yards off the inside of the post.
The Cavaliers less than two minutes later padded their lead. Eric Collins settled a ball in the box and passed to CJ Doherty, who put it away for a 2-0 advantage.
Junior Gareth Cooper (Royersford, PA) cut the lead in half at 2-1 in the 73rd minute, when he fired a shot past goalkeeper Eric Nowicki. Widener took the last five shots of the contest, leading to a 12-8 edge, but could not find the equalizer.
Sophomore DJ DiPaola (Havertown, PA) recorded five shots for the Pride (4-5-1), three of which were on goal.
Nowicki made five saves for the Cavaliers (2-7).
Widener opens Commonwealth Conference play on Friday, when it hosts Albright as part of a doubleheader with the women's team. The women's game begins at 4:00 pm, with the men to follow at approximately 7:00 pm.
