Widener gave its best at 14th-ranked Eastern, only to be dealt a 5-2 loss in St. Davids, PA for just its first setback of the year.
Kim Campbell scored in the second minute off a pass from Kelby Bolton to give Eastern a 1-0 lead. The Eagles made it 2-0 in the 12th minute as Campbell again found the back of the cage, this time from Christin Haas.
Widener halved the deficit to 2-1 in the 15th minute. Freshman Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA) dribble in and sent a pass to sophomore Brittany Creighton (Pitman, NJ), who scored for her team-high third goal of the year.
The Eagles widened the margin to 4-1 on goals by Jess Jaindl in each half. Widener cut it to 4-2 in the 51st minute as junior Kate Fay (West Chester, PA) scored her second goal of the year.
But Jaindl completed the hat trick in the 61st minute to close the scoring.
Senior Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) made nine saves and Fay had two shots for the Pride (2-1).
Laura Ressler closed with six saves and Abby Wagner had four shots for the Eagles (5-1).
