Field Hockey Dominates in 5-0 Victory at Immaculata

Junior Colleen Cormier (Westampton, NJ) had a goal and an assist for Widener, which opened its season with a 5-0 rout at Immaculata.
 
Widener controlled play in the opening half and finally capitalized in the 21st minute. Freshman Samantha Balonis (Northumberland, PA) got the ball in front and tapped a pass to Cormier, who slapped it in the cage on the fly for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Pride continued the pressure late in the half, resulting in a 2-0 margin. Hannah Dinsmore (Wayne, PA) fired one from the top of the circle off a penalty corner, which fellow freshman Kate Erkoboni (Hamilton, NJ) scored on in the 31st minute.
 
Freshman Kelly Froio (Sicklerville, NJ) made it 3-0 for the Pride in the 43rd minute, tipping in a shot from Cormier. Sophomore Shelby Aaronson (Lumberton, NJ) found the back of the cage in the 62nd minute for a 4-0 margin and junior Kate Fay (West Chester, PA) tallied in the 65th minute for a 5-0 cushion.
 
The Pride closed with a 24-4 shots edge and a 16-1 cushion in penalty corners.
 
Widener returns to action September 11 for its home opener against Swarthmore, beginning at noon. Please note the game against Neumann scheduled for September 9 has been canceled.
