Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw Against Lycoming

(box score)

Sophomore DJ DiPaola (Havertown, PA) scored with just over ten minutes left in regulation, helping Widener gain a 1-1 Commonwealth Conference tie against Lycoming at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

DiPaola fired a volley from 20 yards out over the head of goalkeeper James Quinn to tie the game at 1-1 with 10:09 left in regulation.  This came after a failed clear attempt following a Widener corner kick.

After a scoreless first half, Lycoming took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the second stanza when Joe Karslo lobbed a ball from the top of the box to Mike Krebs, who headed it past junior goalkeeper Ryan Frantz (Marlton, NJ).

Widener controlled play for most of the second half, generating multiple scoring chances. The Pride (4-7-2, 0-1-1 CC) earned a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks in the period and outshot Lycoming, 13-4.

Junior Dan Lorenzet (Forest Hill, MD) and sophomore Drew Hilinski (Perkasie, PA) took four shots each for Widener, which ended with a 17-8 edge.

Quinn made four saves for the Warriors (6-6-1, 0-1-1).
