Widener finished with a team hitting percentage of .282 and had no trouble earning a 3-0 Commonwealth Conference victory (25-9, 25-15, 25-17) over Alvernia in Reading, PA.
Junior Nicole Merton (Media, PA) closed with nine kills and a .643 hitting percentage for the Pride (14-9, 3-1 CC). Sophomore Shauna Phillips (Dallas, PA) recorded eight kills and a .357 hitting percentage, junior Jamie Ballew (Media, PA) had 15 assists and six digs with sophomore Meghan Spence (Havertown, PA) contributing nine digs.
Widener ended with a .375 team hitting percentage in the first set and a .321 in the second.
Angela Altemose finished with seven kills and a .353 hitting percentage for the Crusaders (4-10, 1-3). Tori Beck dished six assists and Jennifer Toledo recorded six digs.
Widener on Saturday takes on DeSales at 10:00 am and Penn State Altoona at 2:00 pm in its first home tri-match of the year.
