Field Hockey Wins Third Straight Game, 2-1 at Cabrini

(box score)

Junior Kate Fay (West Chester, PA) for the second straight game netted the deciding goal, this time with 11:19 remaining in Widener's 2-1 victory at Cabrini in Radnor, PA.

Fay tipped in a shot from senior Megan Scarpinato (Sewell, NJ) off a penalty corner to give Widener (8-2) its second three-game winning streak of the year. It was Fay's fourth goal of the season and third career game-winner.

The duo also hooked up the same way Friday with 1:37 left in Widener's 4-3 triumph at Albright.

Senior Megan Purcell (Perkasie, PA) made 17 saves, including 10 in the second half to help the Pride overcome a 27-18 shots edge. Scarpinato ended with five shots.

The victory gives the Pride their best start after 10 games since the 2007 squad opened 9-1.

Maura Gordon took seven shots and Caitlin Donahue had 10 saves for the Cavaliers (6-5).

Widener grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when freshman Kate Erkoboni (Hamilton, NJ) won a scramble in front and scored her second goal of the year.

Cabrini leveled the contest in the 39th minute when Gordon tallied after two previous shots were saved by Purcell.

Widener on Friday closes its three-game road trip with a Commonwealth Conference game at Elizabethtown, beginning at 4:30 pm.
