Carney's 26 Points Lead Women's Basketball to 62-48 Win Over Albright

Freshman Lil Carney (Narbeth, PA) scored a career-best 26 points for Widener, which pulled away in the second half for a 62-48 Commonwealth Conference win over Albright at Schwartz Center.

 

Widener (7-8, 3-1 CC) went on a 17-3 run in just over three minutes to grab a 43-26 lead with 14:12 remaining.  Freshman Kate Dellinger (Wrightsville, PA) scored five points in the burst, capping it with a 3-pointer.

 

The Pride, who led by as many as 19 and never trailed, also did it on the defensive end by holding the Lady Lions (4-9, 0-4) to just 33 percent shooting (7-of-33) in the second half.  Widener shot 47 percent (14-of-30) from the field in the final stanza.

 

Carney could not be stopped, scoring 15 points in the second half on 4-of-9 shooting.  She also finished with eight rebounds and a career-high seven steals overall.

 

Junior Alex Held (Westminster, MD) scored nine points and sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) grabbed 10 rebounds for Widener, which owned a 50-41 rebounding edge to snap a five-game skid.

 

Becca Pollack had 12 points and eight rebounds for Albright, which shot only 25 percent (13-of-52) from the field and 3-of-12 from 3-point range.

 

Widener on Saturday visits Lebanon Valley in a re-match of last year's conference final, won by the Pride.  Tip-off is at 2:00 pm.
